Wohlgefühl – waste-free supermarket

Sustainability is an increasingly important topic in Germany – and for me too. For this reason, I was very happy, to support the establishment of an unpacked store in Ravensburg in the winter semester 2017/2018, together with Lisa Fresser.

Background

Over 10 million tons of plastic waste are produced annually in Germany. It is estimated that up to 13 million tons of plastic waste end up in the sea every year. The unpackaged shops and also the shop in Ravensburg “WOHLGEFÜHL” offer packaging-free food. Those articles can be bought in any quantity and are free of any plastic, pesticides and toxins.

VIDEO

GOAL

To make the opening of the unpacked store in Ravensburg possible, a crowdfunding campaign was started. In order to bring the idea of the WOHLGEFÜHL shop closer to the possible donors, a short video was created to introduce the business idea. It was very important to present the sustainable and innovative idea of the unpackaged shops to future customers.

PROCESS

– New and modern video design: bright, friendly colours and modern design through “hand-wipe technique”.

– Sustainability through less packaging waste: showing all the garbage, explaining the business concept

– Sound recordings in the sound studio of the University of Weingarten

– Cutting and editing the footage

RESULT

The result of our film and editing work was shown on the Crowd Funding homepage and played a major role in the successful founding of the store. Even after the store’s opening, the video is still used to give new customers a brief insight into the “unpackaged store” concept.

PICTURES

GOAL

It was necessary to create pictures of the offered products for the later created homepage and various other advertising measures. The aim was to combine fresh food and products with the idea of sustainable packaging and to reflect the local production of many products.

PROCESS

We shot the photos on two different locations. Some were taken in the photo studio of my university. We had a bright light situation there which should express the purity and cleanliness of the products. The reason why we choose the Veitsburg in Ravensburg with the “Mehlsack” in the background as second location was because it supports the message of local and regional products which are sold in the shop.

RESULT

The photos on the current homepage show a good combination of sustainable packaging for various types of food, as well as the regional connection.

WEBSITE

GOAL

Last but not least, an appropriate homepage should be developed for the business idea and the self-designed logo. The homepage should present the sustainable idea of an unpackaged shop and offer the customer the possibility to get more information about products and the store.

PROCESS

We created a WordPress website so that the shop owner can easily make changes herself.

We used grey and white for a modern design and spiced it up with a light green, which stands for health, nature and sustainability.

Sans serif fonts looks modern and the hand sketches should explain the business idea in combination with large pictures of the alternatively packaged products.

RESULT

After the basic design was developed by Lisa and me, the shop owner was able to refine the homepage and keep it up to date herself. The feedback from the customers regarding the website is very positive, which is why the challenge of a sustainably designed homepage can be regarded as accomplished.
