3D Character Design
The task for this project was to create a character whose appearance tells an interesting and coherent story. I got to know the basic 3D workflow during the whole process. The result should be a turntable that presents the character.
The story behind my character is the following: Hidaya is a native inhabitant of the planet Obu, which is a natural finished place. She lives in deep tangly forests as a higher developed creature with a partly human appearance. As a spiritual leader of her clan she exudes a lot of power which allows her to hover over the forest floor.
PROCESS

The first step was to create a mood board to get an idea of the atmosphere of Hidayas living environment. I also tried to find out which colour schema fits to the character so that I know which colours I will use for texturing and shading later on.

After this I started drawing the first sketches on paper. I experimented with different shapes and transferred my favourite one, a mystical looking creature with tree mushrooms around the head, into Photoshop. Then I finished the sketches with the t-pose, which was used for the modeling.
Hidaya is a very feminine character and I wanted to express this with her clothes. That is why she wears lingerie. The tattoos, the bracelets and the snakelike neck rings are based on the native appearance of Hidayas tribe.


After I prepared all this I got started with the modeling. I did this in Autodesk Maya as well as texturing and shading. The textures were drawn in Photoshop. Arnold was used for rendering.
